Our Simple Church Ministries: Worship, Discipleship & Community

What is the Simple Church Ministry Approach at Covenant Presbyterian Church?

Our ministry is simple. We desire to follow the basic call from Scripture for Christians to worship, make disciples, follow the “one another” commands, extend Christ’s mercy to others, and be good stewards of our time, talents, and treasures. To that end, we emphasize five areas of ministry: worship, discipleship, community, mercy, and stewardship.

Our vision is that our people will come when the Elders call the church together for Morning and Evening Worship, Prayer, Christian Education, and Fellowship Events. God calls the elders of the church to gather and equip the saints, but also sends out the church to be faithful in our various callings in life. While we may have some fellowship events for various groups in the congregation, we want to primarily be a congregation centered around multi-generational corporate gatherings. Our minister and elders “come early and stay late” in order to be available to the congregation and public ministry events. They are also ready to help individuals and families as needed, speaking God’s Word into the lives of our church family.

Our primary church gatherings are for the ministry of the word, sacraments (baptism & communion), fellowship, and prayer. We want to celebrate and suffer together. We want to live obedient lives where God has called us and placed us. Our desire is to shepherd all safely to our heavenly home with our Heavenly Father.

Worship is simply giving God the glory due His name (Psalm 29:1-2). Humans are created and redeemed to give praise to God. The congregation of God’s people gathers on the Lord’s Day to worship God, enjoy His blessing, and to hear Him speak to us. In worship, we read the Bible, sing the Bible, pray the Bible, preach the Bible, and see the Bible. The purpose of the church is to put worship within reach of all people. Worship should be simple so that any follower of Christ can participate in all parts of the service in a meaningful way. We gather every Sunday at 11:00 am and 6:00 pm to give praise to God.

Our Lord gave this Great Commission to His church: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” – Matthew 28:19 (ESV)

Christian Education is held each Lord’s Day at 9:45 am and we offer the opportunity for every Christian to grow in their knowledge of the Bible, Theology, Christian Growth, and Church History.

A Resource Room is provided for your growth in grace. We have Bibles, TableTalk Magazine, children’s books, sacred music, and many books helpful for your spiritual walk in Christ.

For Pastoral Care & Counseling, our pastor and elders are available to our congregation for personal ministry in crisis, counseling, and assistance with any personal or family needs. If a need is beyond our skill or ability, we will assist with finding the appropriate care.

“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” – Acts 2:42 (ESV)

We believe that God conveys grace to us in many ways. One way is through the fellowship of the saints. Much of our fellowship takes place around worship and the ministry of the Word. Joyful interaction through various forms of community also unites us together as we walk through life side-by-side. We eat, pray, sing, and serve together in various ways, recognizing the many and varied gifts of the body of Christ. It’s a beautiful picture when it all comes together.

We are a multi-generational church. We have each span of generations well-represented, from newborns to centenarians! We strive to minister to all age groups and have all age groups minister to one another. There are various groups for fellowship, growth, and service.

“So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” – Galatians 6:10 (ESV)

We believe that God has called us to take the faith given to us and to carry it into the dark, dying, and hurting world. We also believe that God calls us to care for one another within the church.

We support one another in the church body through sickness, weakness, loneliness, death, and other difficult circumstances.

We encourage each of our members to take the Gospel to their spheres of influence, acting as salt and light in the world. Every encounter with people is a potential moment for the redemptive work of God. We are the image of Christ in our schools, at work, in our neighborhoods, at the gym, etc. Personal evangelism and engagement with the world are a must for each Christian! Some of our members are set apart and sent on short-term mission trips. In recent years, our church has sent people and mission teams to Wales, Scotland, Mexico, and Germany.

We support local agencies that bring the Gospel to bear in local settings. We partner with pastors who are starting new churches, with campus ministries, with crisis pregnancy centers, and with local interests who are meeting redemptive needs in our local area. We encourage our people to serve where God has called them, often in unofficial places of ministry—yet representing Christ’s church! Our denomination has a national home missions board that plants new churches and revitalizes old ones.

Finally, we actively support foreign missions around the world. Our denomination has its own foreign board of missions, which we support along with various missionaries who are sent by them into the world. We currently support specific works of the church in Wales, Scotland, Germany, Pakistan, Spain, and Mexico.

Every gift and ability that a person or church possesses is a gift from God. Our Creator has put these things “on loan” with us, and our duty is to serve others for the glory of God and the good of our neighbors. God asks that we be good stewards of our time, our talents, and our treasures. A church body of many gifts useful for God’s glory and one another’s good is an important part of a church’s life. We must use our spiritual gifts, as well as our financial and physical resources, well. It takes time, service, facilities, and money to operate a church. And so we seek the Lord’s will in these things.

Our congregation is blessed with a wonderful facility that has dedicated spaces for the worship of our God, the discipleship of Christians, the safekeeping of our children in nursery care, and space to show hospitality in our fellowship activities. Through many years of faithful gifts and stewardship, we enjoy a beautiful campus that is well-located in our city, debt-free, and maintained as an outpost of heaven where God is worshiped, proclaimed, and enjoyed by our company of saints.
